Aniimo Multiplayer and Crossplay: Co-op, Servers, Cross-Progression
Aniimo multiplayer explained: 2-4 player co-op, full crossplay across PC, console and mobile, which modes need a party, and how cross-progression and servers work.

Does Aniimo have multiplayer and crossplay?
Yes to both. Aniimo supports Online Co-op, Online PvP and Cross-Platform Multiplayer alongside single-player play, and cross-progression is confirmed across PC, console and mobile as long as every device uses the same server. A single co-op lobby holds up to four players: you plus up to three others in your world at once.
The one decision that matters more than any other is the server. The official pre-download FAQ states it directly: “Data on different servers is independent. Game progress is fully shared across all platforms within the same server.” Pick the wrong server and your friends cannot join you; link the wrong account and your progress splits permanently. This page covers the modes first, then the account setup that makes them work.
Which multiplayer modes exist and how many players does each need?
Aniimo does not have one multiplayer mode. It has four different ways to play with other people, and each wants a different party size. Pick the row that matches what you actually want to do tonight.
| Mode | Party size | What it is | Crossplay? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open-world co-op | 2–4 players | Explore, catch, gather, fight Alphas and solve puzzles in the host’s world | Yes, all platforms |
| Operation Egg Heist, Team Mode | 1–3 players | Cooperative extraction on the Lost Isles: dig an egg out of the Lost Sanctum and evacuate it to the Egg Boat | Yes, all platforms |
| Operation Egg Heist, six-team queue | 6 squads racing one prize egg | Same map, five rival squads contesting the prize; PvEvP rather than pure co-op | Yes, all platforms |
| Co-op Sanctums | 2–3 players reported | Puzzle and combat Sanctums the community clears as a group; a full walkthrough of every co-op Sanctum exists | Yes, all platforms |
| Social hubs | Open instance | Shared public places: Astra city, outposts, campfires and RV parks, where you can meet players, duel, trade and hatch eggs | Yes, all platforms |
| Homeland visits | Guests of the owner | Visit another player’s Homeland and help with their tasks | Yes, all platforms |
Two rows need honesty notes. The co-op Sanctum player counts come from community reports — one thread notes that some Sanctums are built for 2–3 players — rather than from a published official table, so treat “bring one or two friends” as the planning rule, not a hard gate. The six-team Egg Heist queue is the competitive counterpart to the cooperative Team Mode tile: this site’s Operation Egg Heist page covers the 1–3 player Team Mode in full, including the solo route.
The reason this table beats every thinner competitor page is that none of them put all six rows in one place. The crossplay explainers list platforms, the server guides list regions, and the Egg Heist guides list squad sizes. Nobody maps mode to headcount to goal, which is the actual question behind “how does multiplayer work”.
How do you play co-op with friends in the open world?
The flow is built around approaching other players rather than a server browser. Players roam the same world as you; walking up to one opens their profile, where you can exchange Aniimo, offer to team up, chat, or become Companions. Companions get a persistent link so you can see each other’s distance, and either side can leave at any time. If you need people rather than mechanics, the global chat and the players gathered at Outposts are the in-game meeting points, and the game has built-in voice chat.
Three limitations from Game8’s multiplayer breakdown decide what a co-op session can actually achieve:
- The host keeps the progress. World changes and quest progress save on the host’s world, not on the guests’. If you clear content in a friend’s world, expect to redo it in your own.
- The main story is single-player only. Story quests cannot be progressed in co-op at all, so plan joint sessions around exploration, catches, Alphas and puzzles instead.
- Parties of 3–4 get Combo Explosion. Unleashing special moves in rapid succession in a 3–4 player party triggers a high-damage Combo Explosion, which hits hardest against a stunned enemy. Duos do not get this, so a third player is a real damage upgrade.
Co-op is also the cheapest weather tool in the game. Because each world rolls its own weather, a friend whose server is raining in Tideblossom Coast is a free Rainstorm spawn. The weather guide covers the forecast side; the friend covers the sky itself.
Does progress carry across PC, console and mobile?
Yes, within one server, through one account. The hub is the email-based Aniimo Pass: every platform login — Steam, PSN, Microsoft, mobile — links to one of these, and once linked, progress is fully shared across PC, console and mobile on that server. Mobile joined the pool on 23 September, a week after the PC and console rollout, so a phone is now a legitimate continuation of the same adventure rather than a fresh start.
The linking flows differ by platform, and the console one is unforgiving:
| Platform | How linking works | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Steam / PC | Link an Aniimo Pass email at login, or later through the in-game Email Link page | The later-link option exists only here |
| PS5 / Xbox | A one-time popup on that console account’s first login offers to link an existing Pass | Skip it and the console registers a brand-new Pass that can never be joined to the old one; the split is permanent |
| Mobile | Connect the Aniimo Pass email during setup, same logic as PC | More flexible than console if you need to adjust |
Two further rules from the same official FAQ, via the account-linking write-ups that transcribed it. Servers are separate characters. Aniimo-America, Aniimo-Europe and Aniimo-Apac keep independent data, and there is no cross-server transfer or merge — before treating progress as missing, check the server first. Claim paid items where you bought them. A pre-order pack’s reward must first be claimed on the platform where it was purchased; only then can linked platforms use the supported items on the same server. If a character is missing after a platform switch, the checklist is email, then server, then link status — in that order — before creating anything new.
Which server should you pick?
Whoever you want to play with decides this, not geography. Friends must create characters in the same server region before trying to play together, and cross-platform parties work only inside one region. The practical order is: agree on a server with your group first, create the character there, then link every platform to the same Aniimo Pass.
One wrinkle worth knowing: regional weather schedules run on server time, which differs by shard — Asia runs UTC+8, Europe runs UTC and the Americas run UTC-4. Two players on different shards can stand in the same region under different skies, which is exactly why the co-op weather trick above works. For the full region tables and what each one locks behind weather, see the Prismana guide and the complete Aniimo list.
What should your co-op team look like?
Open-world co-op is not a boss fight, so the four-role template bends. The best team page covers the full DPS/Break/Support/Regen logic, but for a joint session the priorities compress to three: one Break unit so the party gets damage windows, one healer or shielder so mistakes do not end the run, and mobility so nobody is left behind. The 23 September update notice confirms that co-op runs let the Team Leader select lineup buffs before the fight, so in a group the leader’s setup choices matter as much as anyone’s individual picks.
For the extraction mode specifically, build a disposable loadout. Fainting in Egg Heist forfeits the backpack and everything equipped, and a teammate revive only exists when someone is still standing. The Egg Heist walkthrough has the full route and shop, and the beginner guide covers the rank climb to the unlock. If the session is around Echoback Landing’s island content instead, the Echoback Landing page maps the Sanctum and the Prismana spawns you would be visiting together.
